Sights and Solitude

Sights and Solitude

Washington holds so much beauty within it. It is easy to forget how close one is to all of these outdoor activities. Especially when you grew up in Southern California. There, you are forced to either: 1. drive 5+ hours away to find some solitude within nature or 2. rub shoulders with 100’s of others who are looking to capitalize on the few areas that offer some natural beauty. Even here in Washington, it is easy to fall in the…

Orcas Across Borders

Orcas Across Borders

The Puget Sound is a natural beauty, it’s shoreline adorned with unique wildlife and foliage to delight one’s eyes. A naturalists paradise, there are over 1000 square miles to explore. We have only just begun. Recently, we were given another opportunity to see more of this wondrous water. Nicole found us two tickets for a whale watching tour, via Island Adventures.  We soon found ourselves in Anacortes, at the break of dawn, seeking out our first way point. We made…

Deception Pass

Deception Pass

We wanted to share one of our favorite places to visit in Washington, Deception Pass State Park. It is immensely popular as Washington’s most visited state park. At over 4,134 acres, there is plenty to see. Panoramic views, aquatic wildlife, birds playing in the turbulent wind, and all types of vessels finding their way around in the Puget Sound. A Primer for our Intercontinental Excursion

A Primer for our Intercontinental Excursion

Our hop over the Atlantic is coming soon. After all of the planning, preparation, research, and anticipation, we are chomping at the bit to be on our way. We have been planning this trip for over a year, across two states, 3 homes, and multiple mini vacations. The itinerary is set, and the time until departure has gone from months to hours in what seems to be the blink of an eye. Before we leave, we found a local attraction…

A Sampling of Tastes and Tact in Portland

A Sampling of Tastes and Tact in Portland

Washington was not the first place we considered when we started looking to move out of California. We had friends who moved to Texas who spoke highly of it. Job opportunies in Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, and other states tempted us with a means of escape. Research into other areas beckoned us away from our home. Oregon, specifically Portland, was one such place. The few times we have visited have all been positive and enjoyable. Full of character, kindred spirits, delicious…

Cherry Trees and Clammy Shorelines

Cherry Trees and Clammy Shorelines

Last Saturday we had another opportunity to get out, stretch our legs, and take in some salty air. We had a general outline of what we wanted to accomplish for the day, with quite a bit of time to fill in between destinations. First on the list was to visit Edmonds where we found a jeweler who had some available Qalo rings to try on for our upcoming trip to Europe. The area has beautiful views and a welcoming small town vibe….

Opening Our Eyes to Our New Surroundings (A Sunday Stroll)

Opening Our Eyes to Our New Surroundings (A Sunday Stroll)

We were finally able to get out for a hike last weekend. The idea was to get out sooner, but obligations forced us to put our noses to the grindstone and sort out or living space. Also, the rain has a way of lulling us into our warm home. So, we put up with two months of painting, prepping, unpacking, and working until we finally had a free weekend. Our first expedition was to the Lime Kiln trail in Granite…
